Blogger partnering with KitchenAid and a playful moment with Ryan at Lowe's

Exciting Beginnings: A KitchenAid Partnership and Playful Adventures

I am absolutely thrilled, and frankly, a little awestruck, to announce a dream partnership with KitchenAid! This marks a monumental moment for me, especially considering it’s my very first time owning a stand mixer. I know, it sounds almost comical – a dedicated food blogger without such a staple kitchen appliance! But that’s all about to change, and I can barely contain my excitement about all the culinary creations we’ll be whipping up with this incredible new tool. This collaboration feels like a natural evolution for our blog, promising a wave of fresh, innovative recipes and baking adventures. Mark your calendars; our inaugural KitchenAid recipe post is set to go live on July 11th, and I promise it will be worth the wait, showcasing the versatility and magic a stand mixer brings to any kitchen.

Beyond the bustling kitchen, June also brought a delightful dose of spontaneous outdoor fun. Ryan and I found ourselves in a rather mundane situation – waiting in line at Lowe’s to have a piece of wood cut for a home project. However, mundane quickly turned playful when Ryan, ever the enthusiast, began trying to talk me into playing baseball with him right there. I happily indulged for a few pitches, mostly for laughs, before graciously opting to become the “innocent bystander” photographer. Capturing those candid moments of pure joy, silly negotiations, and infectious enthusiasm is something I truly cherish. It’s a wonderful reminder that even in the most unexpected places, there’s always room for lighthearted fun and connecting with the ones you love.

Enjoying a homemade blueberry crisp and successful antique market finds, including pewter plates

Sweet Indulgences and Savvy Finds: Blueberry Crisp & Antique Market Treasures

What could be more comforting than a warm, bubbling blueberry crisp as a bedtime snack? Absolutely nothing! There’s something uniquely satisfying about indulging in a homemade dessert, straight out of the pan, just before winding down for the night. For this particular batch, I opted to use frozen blueberries, a decision that, while still resulting in a delicious treat, taught me a valuable lesson. The frozen berries, though convenient, yielded a slightly chewier texture than I prefer. Consider it a culinary note-to-self: from here on out, fresh, plump blueberries will be my go-to for that perfect burst of juicy sweetness and tender texture in every single bite. It’s these small culinary experiments and discoveries that make cooking and baking such an ongoing, rewarding journey.

Once a month, during the beautiful warmer seasons, a fantastic antique market springs to life about an hour’s drive from our home. This market is an absolute haven for anyone with a love for unique treasures, and for me, it’s the ultimate destination for sourcing distinctive blog props and charming home decor. The market boasts an incredible array of vendors, each offering a diverse collection of vintage and antique items, from rustic farmhouse finds to elegant Victorian pieces. What makes the experience even better is the vibrant culture of bartering! There’s a thrill in engaging in friendly negotiation, and saying goodbye to paying full price for exquisite pieces is always a win. On this particular trip, I was over the moon to snag some beautiful Queen Anne style pewter plates, items that are notoriously difficult to come by and often quite pricey, for an astonishing $3 a piece! The excitement of the hunt and the satisfaction of a successful negotiation make these monthly excursions an experience I eagerly anticipate.

Our cat Salsa on top of Fiesta ware boxes and a precious mother-daughter bonding day

Home Life & Cherished Company: Salsa’s Regal Domain and Mom’s Visit

Living in a cozy, smaller home, especially with a compact kitchen, means creatively maximizing every inch of space available to us. Our cupboards, while perfectly functional, simply don’t have enough room to comfortably house all of our beloved dishes, particularly our extensive collection of vibrant Fiesta ware. This is precisely why, yes, we have boxes of colorful Fiesta ware adorning the very tops of our kitchen cabinets. It’s a rather unconventional, yet highly effective and colorful, storage solution that adds a quirky charm to our kitchen. Our mischievous cat, Salsa, has clearly taken note of this unique arrangement. With his usual flair for finding the most elevated and interesting spots, he’s found his way up there and has quite literally claimed the top of the Fiesta ware boxes as his personal throne. It’s always a source of amusement to see him surveying his domain from such an elevated perch, perfectly embodying his regal cat persona as the true king of our kitchen.

A truly precious and heartwarming highlight of June was when my wonderful mom came to visit for a few days while Ryan was away on a work trip to Switzerland. Those days were a beautiful blend of relaxation, productivity, and heartfelt connection that I sorely needed. We embarked on a peaceful prayer walk, enjoyed a pampering session with freshly painted nails, tackled some household chores together like diligently cleaning the blinds, and even managed to acquire a vintage kitchen stand from VarageSale. That stand, however, presented a bit of a challenge – it took us a solid three hours to scrub it clean, revealing its hidden beauty underneath layers of grime and neglect. Despite the vigorous scrubbing, every single moment spent with her was incredibly restorative, joyful, and deeply meaningful. I truly cherish our time together, and it was a poignant reminder of how much I love you, Mom, and how invaluable your presence is in my life.

Peaceful morning routine with oatmeal and a book, followed by a fun date night playing Battleship

Daily Rhythms and Date Night Fun: Oatmeal, Reflection, and Battleship

Most of my mornings unfold with a calming, consistent routine that serves as a grounding force for my entire day. It typically begins with a simple, nourishing bowl of plain oatmeal, often topped with freshly sliced apples for a touch of natural sweetness and delightful crunch. Alongside my breakfast, I usually have either my journal, a thought-provoking book, or my Bible, providing a quiet space for reflection, gratitude, and spiritual nourishment before the day’s busyness begins. And, of course, our sweet Salsa is always nearby, adding his comforting and often curious presence to the morning scene, sometimes even trying to sneak a peek at what I’m reading. Recently, my dear friend Hannah gifted me “The Anxious Christian,” a book that has been incredibly encouraging and profoundly insightful as I navigate through various periods of anxiety. It offers profound perspectives and practical strategies, helping me find peace, understanding, and strength in challenging moments.

Even amidst our busy schedules and the everyday demands of life, Ryan and I always make a concerted effort to carve out time for our cherished date nights. This month, we opted for a classic and wonderfully competitive board game: Battleship! There’s something wonderfully nostalgic and engaging about plotting strategies, meticulously placing our ships, and trying to sink each other’s fleets. While I’ve picked up on Ryan’s characteristic strategy – he tends to cluster all of his ships together in a tight formation – it’s still surprisingly difficult to pinpoint their exact locations on the grid. The playful banter, the bursts of laughter, and the friendly competition make these simple, intentional date nights truly special and a perfect way to reconnect, unwind, and just enjoy each other’s company without any distractions.

The endless cycle of laundry and our cat Salsa's rare cuddles with Ryan

Household Realities and Feline Affection: Laundry & Salsa’s Cuddles

Ah, the perpetual reality of adulthood: another day, another laundry pile! It seems to be an endless, inescapable cycle, a constant presence in our home that reminds us of the continuous ebb and flow of daily life. While certainly not the most glamorous or exciting part of our month, it’s one of those routine tasks that keep our household running smoothly and efficiently. One day, I hope to conquer the mountain, but for now, it’s a familiar companion.

On a much sweeter, and frankly, rarer note, our beloved Salsa truly embodies the stereotype of a “momma’s cat.” He’s almost always my shadow, diligently following me from room to room, waking me up in the middle of the night for cuddles, and insisting on sleeping right next to me, often curled up on my chest or tucked beside my pillow. We often joke that he officially picked me as his favorite human, and his constant presence confirms it. Because of his strong and almost exclusive attachment to me, it’s always an incredibly heartwarming and noteworthy sight whenever he chooses to snuggle up with Ryan. These moments are surprisingly rare and deeply cherished by Ryan. When Salsa does decide to grace Ryan with his affection, Ryan practically freezes, trying his absolute best not to move a single muscle, hoping to prolong the precious snuggle session for as long as humanly (or cat-ly) possible. It’s a testament to the special, unspoken bond they share, even if I usually get the lion’s share of his adorable attention and demand for cuddles!

Salsa, our cherished fur baby, and a curious squirrel sniffing my purse

Furry Family & Wild Encounters: Salsa’s Charms and a Bold Squirrel

Salsa isn’t just a pet; he is absolutely, unequivocally, my fur baby! For those of you who have pets and no human children yet, I’m sure you can completely relate to the profound bond, unconditional love, and often hilarious responsibilities that come with caring for these beloved creatures. He brings so much joy, personality, comfort, and sometimes mischievous chaos into our lives, truly making our house feel like a home. His antics and affectionate nature are a constant source of happiness for us, reminding us daily of the unique gifts our furry companions bring.

Speaking of wild encounters, June also delivered a moment that was both startling and hilariously memorable! Picture this: a squirrel, with audacious confidence, boldly sitting on and sniffing my purse! While I appreciate wildlife from a respectful distance, this particular squirrel was far, far too close for my personal comfort. My immediate reaction was a mix of surprise, a slight jolt, and a subtle urge to retreat. Ryan, however, had an entirely different response. He had absolutely no problem whatsoever letting the little guy get up close and personal, seemingly enjoying the close proximity. Ryan has a peculiar and enduring fondness for squirrels; I strongly suspect he secretly harbors a desire to adopt one as a pet, or at the very least, befriend every single one he encounters. So, observing that curious squirrel so intimately was probably a moment of pure “squirrel heaven” for him, much to my mild alarm and amusement!

Celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary with a creative painting class and Date Box subscription

Four Years of Love: Anniversary Celebrations and Creative Dates

June marked a truly special and heartwarming milestone for Ryan and me: our 4-year wedding anniversary! It feels like just yesterday we were exchanging vows and embarking on our journey together, and now four wonderful years have passed, filled with countless memories, shared laughter, and meaningful adventures. This year, we decided to break from tradition and opt for an “us gift” – something we could experience and enjoy together, fostering connection rather than just material possessions. This led to some incredibly thoughtful and wonderfully creative surprises that made our anniversary even more special.

Ryan completely surprised me with a unique and romantic date night painting class. It was such a brilliant idea! We each worked on one half of a cityscape scene, meticulously blending colors and sketching urban outlines. The true magic happened when we brought our individual canvases together – they perfectly formed a complete, vibrant urban landscape. It was not only a fun, engaging, and artistic experience but also a beautiful metaphor for our partnership, where our individual efforts and perspectives combine harmoniously to create something whole and even more beautiful. The finished artwork now proudly hangs in our home, a constant and cherished reminder of that special evening and our shared creative journey.

My surprise for Ryan was equally exciting and promised many more memorable evenings: a 6-month membership to Date Box! This ingenious subscription service mails you a wonderfully themed date night in a box every single month, delivering creativity and connection right to our doorstep. It’s an ingenious way to keep our date nights fresh, imaginative, and full of anticipation, ensuring we always make time for each other. This month’s theme, perfectly aligned with our anniversary, revolved around “growing.” Our date involved making clay pots from scratch, painting them with charming chalk paint, and then planting a variety of fresh herbs, symbolizing growth in our relationship and in our lives. The box also thoughtfully included sour lemonade and Sour Patch Kids, along with a curated music playlist to enhance the atmosphere as we got our hands delightfully dirty and created something beautiful together. It’s an ongoing gift that promises many more memorable evenings and opportunities for us to connect and grow together.

Navigating Life’s Uncharted Waters: Growth, Anxiety, and Future Hopes

In my previous “Out of the Kitchen” post, I shared quite candidly about my ongoing journey with anxiety. It’s a topic deeply personal to me, and I believe strongly in the power of authentic sharing to foster connection and understanding. I’m incredibly grateful and relieved to report that the past few weeks have brought a significant and much-welcomed period of relief from my anxiety – praise the Lord for that! This journey, as many who experience anxiety know, is rarely linear; it often comes and goes through various seasons and is frequently triggered by specific circumstances or internal shifts. Learning to recognize and respond to these patterns is an ongoing process.

To better understand and manage this complex aspect of my life, I’ve committed to regular counseling sessions. This therapeutic space allows me to safely explore my past experiences, identify my specific triggers, and delve into the underlying reasons behind them. It’s a challenging but deeply rewarding process of self-discovery and healing, helping me uncover patterns and develop healthier responses. I’m actively making progress, learning new and profound things about myself every week, and gaining valuable tools for emotional regulation. Crucially, I’m learning to view anxiety not as a personal failing or weakness, but as a complex part of my human experience, and to develop healthier coping mechanisms. One of the most significant lessons I’m trying to internalize is the profound art of slowing down. In a world that constantly glorifies busyness, productivity, and relentless activity, learning to truly SLLOOOOOW DOOOWNN is a tough but utterly essential value to cultivate for mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It’s about intentionally creating space, being present in the moment, and resisting the pervasive urge to constantly be productive or rush through life.

This journey has also taught me the immense value of embracing my struggles and cultivating genuine authenticity. When we choose to be open and authentic about our challenges and vulnerabilities, it doesn’t just benefit us personally; it fosters real, deep, and lasting relationships with others. It creates a safe space for genuine connection, empathy, and understanding, allowing others to feel seen, heard, and less alone in their own struggles. True connection flourishes when we are brave enough to share our whole selves.

Looking ahead, one major anxiety trigger that is distinctly looming on the horizon is the prospect of moving. We anticipate this significant life change will occur roughly a year from now, likely next July. The uncertainty surrounding this event is palpable and can be quite overwhelming: we don’t yet know *where* we’ll be moving, *when* precisely the move will take place, or even if it will be a short, local relocation or a grand, cross-country adventure. This unknown territory can be daunting, but we’re trying our best to approach it with a blend of faith, hope, and practical preparation, even if that preparation is currently just mental.

This upcoming move coincides with another colossal milestone: this is Ryan’s final year in grad school! The culmination of years of intense academic work, dedication, and sacrifice is finally within sight, with his Ph.D completion drawing near. He’s actively beginning his job search, meticulously preparing applications, and many crucial interviews are scheduled to take place this fall. It’s an incredibly exciting time for us, as we both eagerly anticipate transitioning into what we playfully call “more normalized adulthood,” with the potential stability and routine that typically comes after completing such a demanding academic journey. Yet, amidst all the excitement and anticipation, there’s an undeniable undercurrent of fear. I’ve always found change inherently challenging, and my past is unfortunately dotted with experiences of change that I didn’t handle well and wasn’t adequately prepared for, leaving me feeling vulnerable and anxious.

Despite the current fog of uncertainty and the many unanswered questions, I hold onto a deep sense of hope and trust that the pieces will slowly but surely fall into place. Our earnest hope is that by December, we will have a much clearer picture of where we’ll be moving, allowing us to begin the crucial and exciting process of searching for our next home and community. In the meantime, something that has brought immense encouragement and a sense of proactive engagement amidst all these unknowns is the practice of praying specifically for our future city. We pray for our future neighbors, for the church community we’ll become a part of, for new friends, and for Ryan’s future co-workers. This spiritual preparation helps us feel connected to a future that is still unfolding, entrusting it to a higher power.

I vividly recall God’s overwhelming faithfulness when He called us to move eight hours away from our families, leading us to our current city. That transition wasn’t easy; it took considerable time, effort, and intentionality to establish new connections, build community, and find our footing in a completely new environment. But looking back now, with the clarity of hindsight, I can clearly see how good and purposeful His plan was all along, shaping us and guiding us to exactly where we needed to be. His unwavering faithfulness then serves as a powerful testament and a comforting reassurance that He will undoubtedly be faithful again as we embark on this next chapter, whatever it may hold.
