July Adventures: A Month of Milestones, Memories & Delicious Creations
Welcome back to our “Out of the Kitchen” series, where we share the vibrant happenings from our lives beyond the stovetop! July was an incredibly memorable month, brimming with family gatherings, travel, personal milestones, and, of course, plenty of delicious moments. Get ready to dive into all the excitement and reflections that made this summer month truly special.

July proved to be a whirlwind of activity from start to finish, leaving us with cherished memories and full hearts. The month kicked off with a delightful visit from Ryan’s family, a wonderful opportunity to connect and share laughs. Soon after, Ryan made multiple trips back to Minneapolis for various commitments, keeping him on the move. Then, my own family journeyed to Michigan to celebrate a significant birthday milestone with me. And just when we thought things might settle, we packed our bags and headed back to Minnesota ourselves for a joyous wedding celebration. It was a beautiful testament to the power of family, friendship, and embracing life’s precious moments, both big and small.
Celebrating New Beginnings & Everyday Joys
The month began on an incredibly heartwarming note as some of our dearest friends welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world! It’s always such a profound joy to witness friends embarking on the incredible journey of parenthood. They had thoughtfully gifted us mini champagne bottles, adorned with the sweetest message: “Pop it when she pops!” And that’s exactly what Ryan and I did, raising a toast to their new bundle of joy and the exciting chapter ahead. It was a simple yet meaningful way to share in their happiness, even from afar.
Beyond these exciting events, life continued its beautiful, everyday rhythm. The second photo beautifully captures a typical day in our home, filled with the delightful chaos and endless love from my boys. These are the moments that truly ground us, reminding us of the simple pleasures and the deep bonds that make up our family life. From morning cuddles to playful afternoons, every day brings new discoveries and endless affection, making even the most ordinary moments feel extraordinary.

Baking Adventures: From Summer Treats to Autumnal Flavors
In the kitchen, July was a month of creative exploration and recipe development. I immersed myself in crafting some truly irresistible treats, starting with the much-loved Reese’s Cupcakes. These delightful creations combine the classic flavors of peanut butter and chocolate into a perfectly moist and decadent cupcake, always a crowd-pleaser. Complementing these, I also perfected my recipes for rich chocolate frosting and a creamy, dreamy peanut butter frosting, both essential for elevating any baked good.
But the most exciting development was the early dive into fall recipes! As a food blogger, it’s always fun to get a head start on seasonal flavors, and even in the midst of summer, my thoughts turned to the comforting aromas of autumn. The anticipation for cooler weather and cozy baking inspired me to begin experimenting with warmer, spicier notes. The photo on the right offers a sneak peek at one of these upcoming delights: exquisite apple spice cupcakes crowned with a luxurious salted caramel frosting. This recipe is nearly ready to share, and I simply cannot wait for you all to experience the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory that it brings. It’s a taste of autumn, even when the sun is still high.

Celebrating a Teen & Spooky Season Preparations
July also brought a milestone birthday for my oldest nephew, who turned 13! To celebrate his entry into the teenage years, I put together a special goodie box filled with some of his favorite homemade treats. It included a batch of my indulgent chocolate cookies and classic, chewy rice krispie treats – a perfect combination to mark such a fun age. Sending off that package, knowing it would bring a smile to his face, was a wonderful feeling. It’s always a joy to celebrate family, even when we can’t be together in person.
In another exciting turn, my mind has already jumped ahead to my absolute favorite holiday: Halloween! Yes, even in July, the magic of spooky season starts to brew in my kitchen. The second photo captures the very beginning of my Halloween recipe development. There’s something so creatively freeing about designing treats that are both delicious and delightfully eerie. From intricate cookies to festive cakes, I love exploring all the fun possibilities this holiday offers. Get ready for some wickedly good recipes to come your way as we inch closer to October!

Milestone Birthday & Family Fun in Michigan
A truly special highlight of July was celebrating my 30th birthday, made even more memorable by the visit from my wonderful family! My dad, mom, and step-dad all made the trip to Michigan, filling our home with laughter, love, and lively conversation. It was incredibly heartwarming to have them here for such a significant occasion, making the transition into a new decade feel all the more joyful and supported. Their presence alone was the best gift.
Of course, hosting family means feeding them well! The first photo humorously illustrates what a shopping cart looks like when you’re stocking up for five hungry adults – let’s just say it was overflowing! We enjoyed many delicious meals together, though one particular culinary adventure brought a bit of a chuckle. If you ever leave me in charge of grilling hot dogs, be warned: they might just acquire a charmingly charred exterior! It’s all part of the fun of family gatherings, and we certainly created some unforgettable, albeit slightly smoky, memories around the grill.

Blueberry Bounty & A Profound Baptism on My 30th Birthday
During my family’s visit, we embarked on a delightful blueberry picking adventure. It was a beautiful day spent outdoors, and we managed to gather an incredible 21 pounds of fresh blueberries! We certainly ate a ton of them fresh, but the bounty also inspired some wonderful baking. Blueberry muffins are a perennial favorite in our household, and there’s nothing quite like baking with freshly picked fruit. The sweet aroma filling the kitchen was pure bliss, and the muffins themselves were a perfect taste of summer.
The biggest and most profound moment of my 30th birthday, Sunday, July 14th, was undoubtedly my baptism at church. This was a deeply personal and significant step in my faith journey. I’ve been walking with the Lord for a long time, having accepted Christ years ago, but I wasn’t baptized as a new Christian. As I grew in my faith, I sometimes felt like I had missed that initial opportunity, as baptism is often associated with new believers. However, I distinctly felt the Lord calling me to take this step on my birthday – the timing finally felt right, aligning perfectly with this new decade of my life.
Turning 30 brings with it a mix of emotions: it’s both a scary and incredibly exciting threshold. Scary, because I’m not precisely where my high school self envisioned I would be at this age. I imagined being done having kids by 30 and never thought I’d move out of Minnesota. Life, as it often does, has unfolded differently from my carefully laid plans. Yet, it is still so good, just wonderfully, beautifully different. Baptism, for me, was an act of surrendering it all to Him in complete obedience. It’s a profound declaration of faith, acknowledging that my plans are secondary to His divine will. This journey of surrender is challenging, and I certainly don’t navigate it perfectly every day. But daily, I choose to lay down my own desires and actively follow His path. As I reflect on these three decades, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Thank you, Jesus, for 30 years of life, for guiding me, and for this beautiful, unexpected journey.

A Festive Fiesta Birthday Dinner
To continue the celebration of my actual birthday, we threw a lively fiesta dinner! It was a fantastic evening filled with vibrant decorations, delicious Mexican-inspired food, and plenty of laughter. We fully embraced the theme, complete with an array of sombreros and playful mustaches, making for some truly memorable photos and hilarious moments. It was the perfect way to cap off a day filled with so much significance and joy, surrounded by the people I love most. The fiesta perfectly embodied the festive and grateful spirit of turning thirty.

A Nostalgic Trip to Minnesota for a Wedding
The following weekend saw us flying back to Minnesota for a beautiful wedding! This trip was a wonderful blend of celebration and nostalgia. Ryan and I took some time to wander through the Mall of America, a place we both grew up frequenting. It’s located just about 15 minutes from where our families live, so it holds many childhood memories. Having not been there in about seven years, it was fascinating to see how much had changed and to experience it with fresh, almost touristy, eyes. We even indulged our inner children with a thrilling ride on the Ghostbusters attraction in Nickelodeon Universe!
Beyond the mall, we packed in a full day of precious family time with my beloved nieces and nephews. There’s nothing quite like reconnecting with them, sharing stories, and seeing how much they’ve grown. My heart swells with love for all of them. In the picture above, you can see me excitedly showing them photos of our house and our adorable dog, Salsa, sharing a little piece of our Michigan life with them. These moments of connection and laughter truly make any journey worthwhile, reinforcing the deep bonds we share with our extended family.

Celebrating Love: Ryan as Best Man
The main reason for our return to Minnesota was to celebrate the wedding of some of our dearest high school best friends. It’s always incredibly special to witness the union of people you’ve known and loved for so long, and this wedding was no exception. Ryan had the distinct honor of serving as the best man, a role he took with grace and enthusiasm. The atmosphere was electric, filled with joy, heartfelt toasts, and an incredible sense of community.
It was such a blast catching up with old friends, reminiscing about past adventures, and creating new memories on the dance floor. And speaking of dancing, my husband truly has some seriously good moves – he definitely kept the party lively! Ryan also delivered an absolutely awesome best man’s speech, balancing humor, warmth, and genuine emotion, which resonated beautifully with everyone. He truly made us all proud. It was a beautiful celebration of love, friendship, and new beginnings, and we felt so fortunate to be a part of it.
