July Adventures: Savoring Summer Moments, Creating Memories, and Embracing New Beginnings
Welcome back to our monthly “Out of the Kitchen” series, where we share a glimpse into our lives beyond the stovetop. July was an incredibly vibrant and fulfilling month, bursting with culinary delights, rewarding home improvements, heartwarming family gatherings, and the exciting embrace of new hobbies. From mastering summer recipes and tackling long-overdue house projects to celebrating significant milestones and enjoying simple pleasures, this past month truly captured the essence of a beautiful summer. Join us as we recount the many moments that made July so memorable!

A Month of Culinary Creations
Mastering Summer Flavors
Our kitchen was a hub of activity this summer, dedicated to crafting delicious and seasonal meals that truly hit the spot. A standout favorite on our dinner rotation was a refreshing pesto pasta, generously laden with juicy, ripe tomatoes. We paired this vibrant dish with perfectly grilled zucchini and succulent chicken, creating a balanced and utterly satisfying meal that tasted like pure summer. Ryan, ever the enthusiastic chef, has truly elevated his quiche-making skills. This month, he outdid himself by not only creating a flawless filling but also crafting the delicate, flaky crust entirely from scratch. His dedication to perfecting the art of quiche has resulted in consistently amazing breakfasts and brunches that we both absolutely adore.

Indulging in Effortless Desserts
When the summer heat makes oven baking feel like a chore, no-bake desserts become absolute heroes. This July, I made it a priority to add two fantastic new no-bake pie recipes to the blog, ensuring that our readers have an abundance of cool and simple options. First, I introduced a rich and creamy no-bake peanut butter pie, a truly indulgent treat that requires minimal effort. Following closely was a decadent chocolate pudding pie, another fantastic recipe perfect for satisfying sweet cravings without heating up the kitchen. You can truly never have too many no-bake options when the temperatures soar! Beyond pies, I also developed a wonderfully easy recipe for cherry dump cake, a delightful fruit dessert that practically makes itself. And for those who love seasonal flavors, a peach dump cake recipe is also in the pipeline and will be joining the collection very soon, promising more simple, delicious goodness.

Nurturing Our Home Environment
Enhancing Our Living Space
There’s immense satisfaction in finally tackling those minor home projects that tend to linger on the to-do list for months. This July, we dedicated some time to spackling nail holes and performing much-needed paint touch-ups around the house. It’s one of those tasks that feels insignificant on its own, but the cumulative effect of having a refreshed, polished living space is incredibly rewarding. The walls now look crisp and clean, reflecting a renewed sense of order. In our bedroom, we also added a lovely decorative touch by hanging these elegant, modern metal hoops, which we adorned with subtle greenery. This small addition has instantly brought a contemporary and serene vibe to our private sanctuary, making it feel even more inviting and personal.

Cherished Moments with Family and Friends
A Joyous Wedding Celebration
July was a month of significant family milestones! My brother, Bryan, and his wonderful fiancée, Emily, officially tied the knot in beautiful Madison. It was an absolute joy and a much-welcomed opportunity to get out of town and immerse ourselves in a celebration of love and family. Even with the necessary social distancing measures in place, the atmosphere was brimming with happiness and heartfelt emotion. Seeing Bryan and Emily exchange vows and begin their journey as husband and wife was truly special, and it reminded us all of the enduring power of connection, even in challenging times. It was a beautiful occasion filled with laughter, good food, and the warmth of kinship, creating memories we will cherish for years to come.

Marking Another Year: My 31st Birthday
Speaking of celebrations, July also marked my 31st birthday! It was a day filled with delightful surprises and thoughtful gestures. Our sweet cat, Salsa, always manages to steal the spotlight with her endearing antics – she’s just too cute, always bringing a smile to our faces. The day truly kicked off with a heartwarming surprise from Ryan: breakfast in bed! He went all out, meticulously preparing a spread of all my absolute favorite breakfast options, transforming our bedroom into a cozy brunch spot. It was such a thoughtful way to start the day, making me feel incredibly loved and appreciated, setting a joyful tone for the rest of my birthday festivities.

The birthday celebrations continued into the evening with a truly memorable dinner. For years, we’ve loved making homemade pizza, but this year we discovered a new obsession: grilled pizza! It’s quickly become our absolute favorite thing to prepare on the grill, imparting a fantastic smoky flavor and a perfectly crispy crust. The evening was made even sweeter when my dear friend Kirstin arrived with a wonderful surprise – a delicious gluten-free dessert, knowing my dietary preferences. Ryan thoughtfully placed candles in it, including a festive number “3” candle and a single candle to represent the “1” for my 31st birthday. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful day, surrounded by good food, cherished friends, and loving gestures that made turning 31 feel incredibly special.

Embracing Hobbies and Relaxation
Unwinding with Games and Our Furry Friend
Even as adults, we firmly believe in the power of simple, nostalgic fun to unwind and connect. We regularly host card nights where we joyfully indulge in classics like Crazy 8s, Go Fish, and War. Yes, we are indeed adults, and yes, we still absolutely love playing Go Fish and War! There’s something incredibly comforting and genuinely entertaining about revisiting these childhood games together. Beyond cards, we also share a passion for brain-teasing activities, often spending evenings collaborating on challenging puzzles, intricate crosswords, and stimulating Sudoku grids. These quiet moments of shared focus and lighthearted competition are truly cherished. And, of course, no day is complete without our beloved Salsa. The second photo perfectly captures one of my favorite daily rituals: getting in my mid-day Salsa snuggles. Her purrs and gentle presence are the ultimate stress-relievers, making even the busiest days feel more balanced and joyful.

Gliding into a New Hobby: Rollerblading Adventures
I’ve been contemplating buying rollerblades for several months, envisioning days spent cruising outdoors. Serendipitously, during a recent trip to Goodwill, I stumbled upon a pair in my exact size for an unbelievable $4.99! It felt like fate, and I immediately embraced this new hobby. While I’m certainly not setting any speed records yet – I’m quite slow, to be honest – it’s incredibly fun and liberating. My current strategy involves carefully avoiding any downhill slopes and those dreaded detectable warning surfaces, treating them like the plague until I gain more confidence. For my inaugural rollerblading excursion, Ryan joined me on foot, and we made our way to the local ice cream shop, about a mile from our house. It was a delightful first outing, and now I’m on a mission to find a pair for Ryan at Goodwill too, though I suspect he’ll be effortlessly cruising past me in no time!

A Vision for the Bathroom Refresh
Continuing our home improvement efforts, we made a significant decision for our upcoming bathroom renovation: we selected a beautiful white quartz countertop for the vanity we’re replacing. The pristine, elegant look of quartz perfectly complements our vision for a clean and modern aesthetic. To add a touch of warmth and sophistication, we’ve decided to pair the countertop with stunning gold/bronze hardware and a matching faucet. We’re incredibly excited about this update, which we hope will be fully completed by mid-August, transforming our bathroom into a luxurious and functional space. On a different note, July also brought another family birthday – my nephew celebrated his 14th! True to tradition with my nieces and nephews, he chose his favorite treat: Oreo cookies. So, I happily baked a fresh batch of homemade Oreo cookies and mailed them off to him, ensuring he felt loved and celebrated, even from a distance. It’s a small tradition, but one that I cherish deeply.

Glimpses of Autumn in the Kitchen
As July drew to a close, my thoughts inevitably turned towards the cooler seasons, and I began the exciting process of brainstorming and testing new fall recipes. It always feels a bit surreal and crazy to be developing apple and pumpkin recipes when the summer sun is still at its peak, but it’s a necessary part of the blogging cycle every single year. Despite the odd timing, I’m genuinely super excited about the culinary creations taking shape. I’m particularly thrilled to announce that I’ll be sharing two brand-new, delightful sugar cookie recipes in the coming months – one in September and another in October. These new additions promise to bring a taste of autumn warmth and comfort to your kitchens, and I can’t wait for you all to try them!

The Enduring Power of Friendship
Amidst all the activities, we also carved out time for some much-needed relaxation and local exploration. One afternoon, we enjoyed a wonderful “normal” outing, strolling around downtown Bay City and indulging in a delightful Jimmy John’s picnic lunch by the tranquil waterfront. It was so refreshing to simply get out of the house and savor the simple pleasure of a meal with a view, feeling a sense of normalcy in our routines. This month was also particularly special because I got to spend a significant amount of quality time with my dear friend Kirstin and her two energetic kiddos. Knowing they’ll be moving soon made every moment even more precious. We took full advantage of the beautiful weather, visiting local parks, splashing around at the splash park, and enjoying leisurely walks. Having Kirstin in my life and watching her children grow has been an immense blessing, and I cherish our friendship deeply. Love you, friend!
