June Life Update: Embracing Home, Health, and Happiness
Welcome back to another heartfelt edition of “Out of the Kitchen,” where we open our home and share a candid glimpse into the moments that made our June memorable. This past month was a vibrant tapestry woven with gratifying DIY endeavors, a significant personal milestone, continuous steps forward on a health journey, and countless cherished interactions with loved ones – including our ever-present furry companion. We’re excited to recount everything we’ve been up to, hoping to offer a touch of inspiration for your own projects or simply a relatable narrative from the beautiful, bustling rhythm of daily life.

DIY Delights: From Mirror Transformations to Guest Room Charms
June commenced with a deeply satisfying completion: our framed mirror project. I’m honestly kicking myself for neglecting to capture that crucial final photograph, but I assure you, the finished piece is a true standout! We took a simple 2×5 foot mirror, which we serendipitously discovered for just $20 on a local marketplace, and elevated it into a bespoke statement piece. Our approach involved utilizing sturdy 2x4s to construct a substantial, chunky wood frame, lending an instant rustic yet sophisticated charm. The entire process was incredibly rewarding, showcasing how accessible materials and a bit of elbow grease can lead to a significant upgrade in home aesthetics. It’s a testament to the power of DIY, proving that custom, impactful decor doesn’t always come with a hefty price tag. The mirror now beautifully anchors its space, reflecting light and adding depth with its newly defined presence.
In a slightly different, yet equally practical, hands-on learning experience, Ryan dedicated some time this month to teaching me the fundamentals of changing the oil in my car. While I wouldn’t confidently declare myself an expert ready to tackle the task independently just yet – indeed, my role was primarily one of attentive observation and strategic questioning – the lesson was invaluable. Gaining even a basic understanding of automotive maintenance feels incredibly empowering. It’s these small, incremental steps toward self-sufficiency that truly make a difference, equipping us with skills that extend beyond the familiar confines of our home. It’s about building confidence and knowing a little more about how the world around us works, one wrench turn at a time.

Seven Years Strong: Celebrating Love and Fresh Chapters
June held a truly special significance for us as we celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary! It feels absolutely surreal to reflect on seven years of marriage; the time has simultaneously flown by and felt incredibly rich with experiences. A substantial portion of our married life unfolded during Ryan’s intensive graduate school years, a period where free time was a rare commodity. Consequently, we often joke that we feel like newlyweds, embarking on a fresh chapter where we can fully dedicate ourselves to building our life together without the immense academic pressures. This anniversary felt like a poignant celebration not just of our enduring past, but also of the vibrant, exciting new phases we are eagerly stepping into, filled with shared dreams, simpler pleasures, and renewed focus on each other.
Beyond our personal milestone, this month also marked consistent progress in the ongoing project of decorating our guest bedroom. Transforming this space into a warm, inviting sanctuary for our visitors has been a labor of love, and it’s truly beginning to blossom into something special. We’ve been meticulously curating pieces, from furniture to textiles, arranging them to create an atmosphere that feels both cozy and stylish. Once again, I find myself wishing I had a final, perfectly staged photograph to share right this moment, but I promise a comprehensive reveal in a future post! Witnessing the room evolve from a blank canvas to a thoughtfully designed haven has been immensely gratifying, adding another layer of comfort and personality to our cherished home.

Kitchen Chronicles: From Culinary Flops to Fantastic Feasts
The kitchen, as is often the case, remained a bustling epicenter of activity this month, witnessing its fair share of culinary triumphs and, inevitably, a few learning experiences. One particular saga involved a no-bake cheesecake that, in its initial attempts, was an undeniable flop. Instead of setting into a firm, delightful dessert, it stubbornly remained a rather unappealing, unset puddle. However, my resolve to create delicious sweet treats is strong, and giving up was simply not an option! I meticulously revisited the recipe, experimenting with various ingredient ratios and chilling techniques until I finally achieved that coveted perfect, fluffy, and impeccably set texture. The profound satisfaction of transforming a kitchen disaster into a triumphant culinary success is unparalleled, and I am genuinely thrilled to share this perfected recipe with all of you in a few weeks. Prepare yourselves for what I believe will quickly become your go-to no-bake dessert!
Amidst all the baking and recipe testing, our beloved canine family member, Salsa, continued to be my most faithful shadow. The accompanying photo perfectly captures him, perfectly content and settled right beside my photography station, a quiet observer of all the kitchen happenings. It’s these sweet, unassuming moments of companionship that infuse our days with extra warmth and brightness. He often acts as my silent supervisor, watching my culinary endeavors from a respectful distance, perhaps (or perhaps not!) hoping for a stray crumb. His steady presence is a constant, comforting reminder of the simple, profound joys that a loyal pet brings into our lives.

Navigating Health and Home: From Grill Adventures to Hormone Journeys
It appears that every summer brings with it an almost annual tradition of a minor grill fire incident, and this June was no exception to our fiery backyard adventures! Ryan, ever the good-natured teaser, still finds endless amusement in my predictable reactions. As he diligently rotated the kabobs over the open flame, more and more dramatic flare-ups would occur, prompting my escalating exclamations from a calm “Whoa…” to an increasingly urgent and high-pitched “Whoa!… WHOA!” It’s always a bit of an adrenaline rush, but thankfully, everything always remains under control, and we invariably end up with perfectly charred, delicious food despite the impromptu pyrotechnics. It’s just one of those funny, recurring summer traditions that injects a dose of unexpected excitement into our outdoor cooking experiences.
On a more personal and significant note, June also involved undergoing additional lab testing to closely monitor my hormone levels. For those who may have missed our previous updates, I openly shared my ongoing journey after being diagnosed with PCOS, a condition that necessitates regular check-ups and proactive management. While the mere thought of blood draws once filled me with considerable dread, I’ve now had numerous opportunities to confront and gradually overcome that fear. With each subsequent test, it genuinely becomes a little less daunting, and I consistently find myself feeling braver and more resilient in the face of it. It serves as a powerful testament to how consistently facing even minor anxieties can cultivate significant inner strength. At this particular juncture, there isn’t a dramatic new update to share regarding my hormone journey, but I continue to navigate it with a positive mindset, prioritizing my overall well-being and pursuing comprehensive health management. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and I am dedicated to listening to my body and seeking the best possible care for my long-term health.

The Heart of the Home: Baking, Gifting, and Family Connections
Here’s a perfectly candid glimpse into my kitchen – yes, it absolutely gets a bit messy sometimes, especially when creative energy (and a lot of cooking and baking!) is in full swing! If I were fortunate enough to possess even more counter space, I am quite certain it would be equally laden with dishes, scattered ingredients, and a myriad of culinary tools. It truly is a lived-in kitchen, a genuine reflection of the daily meals and enthusiastic baking experiments that regularly unfold here. This month, the kitchen was particularly abuzz with a very special baking mission dedicated to Father’s Day. I poured my affection into crafting two beloved cookie recipes: classic double chocolate chip M&M cookies and robust, comforting cowboy cookies. These delectable treats were meticulously packaged and dispatched to my dad, stepdad, and father-in-law, serving as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for the incredible fathers in my life. There is truly nothing quite as special as receiving homemade cookies via mail – it’s a tangible taste of home, a comforting hug delivered in edible form, proving that thoughtful gestures transcend geographical distances and deeply nourish connections.

Speaking of deliciousness, you might recall my recent triumph with the no-bake cheesecake. Well, here’s another enticing sneak peek of its creamy perfection, building anticipation for when I finally share the full, perfected recipe later this month. It’s genuinely something extraordinary, and I cannot wait for all of you to experience its deliciousness! And while I thoroughly enjoy my baking endeavors, I must unequivocally give credit where immense credit is due: Ryan is an absolutely AMAZING cook. Seriously, just take a moment to admire that impeccably crafted omelet in the accompanying photo! His culinary talents are truly impressive, and I must confess, I am entirely and completely content with letting him handle the vast majority of our everyday cooking. It’s a wonderful, symbiotic partnership in the kitchen that ensures we consistently get to enjoy incredible, gourmet-quality, home-cooked meals.

Loyal Companionship and Outdoor Transformations
Anyone who has followed our journey knows, without a doubt, that Salsa is my ultimate buddy. His constant presence is an unending source of comfort, affection, and pure joy in our home. I particularly cherish those quiet moments when he chooses to settle down right beside me during my workday. Whether he’s peacefully napping, or simply observing the world with his big, soulful eyes, his calm companionship transforms the hours, making them feel less solitary and more deeply connected. He is far more than just a pet; he is an integral, cherished member of our family, always there to offer a gentle, furry head nudge or a soothing presence exactly when it’s needed most. His serene demeanor and affectionate nature are truly heartwarming, consistently making every single day a little brighter and more joyful.

We triumphantly concluded the month by tackling a landscaping project that had lingered on our perpetual to-do list for far too long: the complete transformation of what we had affectionately (and accurately) labeled our “weed pit.” When we initially purchased our home, the existing landscaping was in a state of considerable neglect, and we’ve been systematically, albeit slowly, working our way through various sections to restore them. This particular area was the final, most challenging frontier – severely overgrown and unruly, rendering its original purpose as a mulched garden bed almost entirely unrecognizable. The first photo truly captures its “before” state – a chaotic tangle of stubborn weeds and unkempt foliage. The subsequent transformation is nothing short of incredible; it now boasts a clean, orderly, and purposefully designed appearance. The profound satisfaction derived from clearing it out and meticulously restoring it to a proper, pristine mulch area is immense. We are currently in the enjoyable phase of deliberating exactly what new plants and greenery will best adorn this revitalized space, envisioning future blooms and textures that will seamlessly complement the rest of our rejuvenated garden. It’s a powerful reminder of how dedication and diligent effort can culminate in creating a significantly more beautiful, functional, and inviting outdoor living area.
