June’s Grand Adventures: A Detailed Look At Our Latest “Out of the Kitchen” Experiences!

Six Years of Journeying Together: Our Traverse City Anniversary Escape

June began with a truly special milestone: our six-year anniversary on June 2nd! To commemorate this wonderful occasion, we embarked on an unforgettable journey to Traverse City, Michigan. It marked our inaugural visit to this charming lakeside gem together, and we enthusiastically embraced all the quintessential tourist activities the area had to offer. From strolling through quaint downtown streets to sampling local delicacies, every moment felt like a discovery. The region’s natural beauty captivated us instantly, setting a perfect backdrop for celebrating our enduring connection.

Conquering the Majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes

Without a doubt, the undisputed highlight of our Traverse City adventure was challenging ourselves to climb the breathtaking Sleeping Bear Dunes. As we ascended, the sheer scale of the landscape was awe-inspiring. Vast expanses of sand stretched out before us, resembling a scene straight out of an Egyptian desert panorama. The soft, shifting sand made each step an effort, but the panoramic views from the summit were an incredible reward. Looking out over the pristine turquoise waters of Lake Michigan and the endless horizon was a truly humbling experience, making every laborious step worth it. It was a powerful reminder of nature’s grandeur and a metaphor for the journey we’ve shared over six years – challenging at times, but ultimately rewarding and beautiful.

First-Ever Room Service & Scenic Winery Drives

Our anniversary trip also brought another exciting first: ordering room service! While it might seem like a small detail to some, it was a moment of pure indulgence and novelty for us. There’s something uniquely luxurious about having a delicious meal delivered right to your door after a long day of exploring, allowing for ultimate relaxation in the comfort of our temporary retreat. We savored every bite, making a simple dinner feel like a grand affair. Beyond the hotel, we ventured further, taking a picturesque drive up the historic Old Mission Peninsula. This scenic route treated us to spectacular views of rolling vineyards and the shimmering waters of Grand Traverse Bay. The peninsula is renowned for its world-class wineries, and witnessing the meticulously tended rows of grapevines against such a stunning backdrop was a feast for the eyes. We imagined future visits filled with wine tastings and sun-drenched afternoons, already planning our return.

Comforts of Home: Evenings, DIYs, and Salsa’s Quirks

Back at home, June continued to unfold with a mix of cozy evenings, creative endeavors, and the ever-entertaining antics of our beloved cat, Salsa. These quieter moments are just as precious as our grand adventures, offering a chance to recharge and appreciate the simple joys of everyday life.

Deck Evenings and Literary Escapes

We’ve been making the most of the beautiful June evenings by spending quality time on our deck. There’s nothing quite like the gentle breeze and the fading sunlight to unwind after a busy day. It was during one of these serene evenings that I decided to embark on a nostalgic journey: rereading the entire Harry Potter series. Diving back into that magical world feels like visiting old friends, and it’s a comforting ritual to revisit beloved stories. Meanwhile, our curious cat, Salsa, continues to amuse us with his peculiar habits. He absolutely loves sticking his head through the deck railing! It’s a tight squeeze, and we often wonder how he manages to get his head through, let alone what fascination compels him. But he seems to enjoy keeping a watchful eye on us from his “catwalk” vantage point, making sure he doesn’t miss any action.

Experimental Beauty & Stepping Into Live Social Media

June was also a month for a bit of experimentation! I ventured into the world of DIY beauty by trying an egg white face mask, which I enthusiastically shared on Instagram. The process was quite simple and fun, though my verdict remains that I didn’t observe any dramatic difference in my skin’s appearance afterwards. It was more about the experience and the joy of trying something new. Later in the month, I took a big leap and hosted my very first simultaneous Facebook and Instagram Live session! This monumental step into live broadcasting was made possible with the invaluable support and encouragement of my wonderful friends, Steph and Robin. We chatted about my latest FabFitFun box, delving into each item. I was particularly thrilled with the eye shadow palette, which offered a beautiful range of colors, and the incredibly precise eyeliner, both of which have quickly become staples in my daily routine. It was a fantastic experience connecting with viewers in real-time and sharing my thoughts on new products.

Cherished Moments: Family Visits and Home Life Challenges

Family is at the heart of our lives, and June brought a delightful visit that filled our home with laughter and cherished memories. Alongside these joyous moments, we also navigated some typical homeownership challenges, proving that life is always an interesting mix.

A Wonderful Weekend with Dad

We were absolutely thrilled to have my dad spend a weekend with us this month! It was a fantastic opportunity to create lasting memories and enjoy some quality family time. Our itinerary was packed with classic American fun: we cheered on our favorite team at a lively baseball game, soaking in the electric atmosphere of the stadium. Mornings started off right with a massive pancake breakfast, piled high with delicious toppings – a true weekend treat. We also enjoyed leisurely bike rides, exploring local trails and savoring the fresh air and scenic views. And, of course, no family visit would be complete without indulging in ice cream – not just once, but a few times! Each scoop was a moment of pure happiness, adding to the joy of our shared experiences. It’s these simple, heartfelt moments that truly enrich our lives.

Grill Fire Scare & The Epic Basket Hunt

This month also brought a bit of an unexpected scare: our very first grill grease fire! It happened so suddenly, and for a few terrifying moments, panic set in. We are incredibly thankful to have a fire extinguisher readily accessible, which helped us quickly bring the situation under control. This incident served as a stark reminder to all our friends and readers: always remember to regularly change your grill’s drip pans, and never, ever turn the grill on high and walk away for an extended period, even just 15 minutes! Safety first in the kitchen, and especially by the grill. In other home-related news, I’ve been on an epic “great basket hunt” for a secret project I’ve been diligently working on. The goal was to find the perfect baskets to fit the shelves of this mystery endeavor. After purchasing a set that, unfortunately, didn’t work out, I adopted a new strategy: bring home every single basket that caught my eye, test them out, and then return the ones that didn’t fit or simply weren’t quite right. Hilariously, I ended up returning every single basket you see in that picture! It was a comical exercise in trial and error. But rest assured, after much persistence, I eventually found the ideal baskets that perfectly complemented my secret project. Stay tuned for the reveal!

Salsa’s Affection & Our Favorite Thirty-Minute Treat

Our furry companion, Salsa, continued to be a source of endless entertainment and comfort throughout June, showing new facets of his charming personality. And sometimes, you just have to drive for your cravings!

Rare Lap Time with Salsa & The Chipotle Pilgrimage

One afternoon last week, Salsa did something truly rare: he jumped onto my lap during lunch! This doesn’t happen often, making it a particularly special moment of feline affection. Of course, being a cat, the cuddles were inevitably followed by a few playful scratch and bite marks – a classic Salsa love language, I suppose! We wouldn’t have him any other way. Speaking of cravings, enjoying Chipotle has become quite the special treat for us now, largely because we have to undertake a 30-minute drive just to get our hands on it. Despite the journey, every single time, it is absolutely worth it. There’s something about that fresh, customizable goodness that makes the pilgrimage completely justified and a delightful reward.

Salsa’s Evolving Affection

We’ve noticed a significant shift in Salsa’s behavior lately; he’s become noticeably more attached to me. His increased closeness is both heartwarming and a little surprising. It was particularly unusual and endearing to see him get cozy on the arm of the couch – a spot he had never chosen before! This new habit speaks volumes about his growing comfort and affection. Furthermore, he now frequently joins me in my office during the day, curling up for naps while I’m working. His quiet presence is a comforting addition to my workday, making the office feel a little less like a workspace and a lot more like a shared sanctuary. These small gestures truly make our bond even stronger.

Unconventional Creativity: A Late-Night Photoshoot Adventure

June rounded out with a uniquely creative endeavor that pushed us out of our comfort zones and into an unexpected setting, proving that inspiration can strike anywhere.

Grocery Store Glam: Our Midnight Photoshoot

To cap off an eventful month, my talented friend and photographer, Miranda, and I embarked on an exciting and slightly unconventional late-night grocery store photoshoot! The idea was simple yet brilliant: we intentionally scheduled our shoot for around 9:30 PM, hoping to find the aisles less crowded. Our strategy paid off beautifully; just as we anticipated, the store was wonderfully quiet, allowing us to move freely and capture some truly unique shots without drawing too much attention. While we did receive a few curious glances, thankfully, we didn’t encounter too many awkward stares! It was an exhilarating experience, transforming an everyday setting into a creative playground. We experimented with different backdrops among the shelves, played with lighting, and thoroughly enjoyed the creative process. The resulting photos are fantastic, and I cannot wait to share a dedicated post revealing all the fun and artistic outcomes from this memorable session very soon. Get ready for an unexpected blend of retail and artistry!
